1st Practice: The Seen
As we’ve already discussed, without exception or at least rare exception, the first and perhaps most difficult challenge to overcome in the journey of mirror meditation is being willing to see one’s self ‘as is’. Often, looking in the mirror can create all manner of body dysmorphia and self-judgment. It can feel awkward to stare. It can feel a little self-obsessed or taboo.
So our first practice is simply to look and take note of anything that comes up for us as we do. If you have practiced the Smile Meditation, then you may already have an idea of what might arise.
So, let’s get comfy in front of the mirror. Relax and let go of any tension. This should feel like a break, not another chore…
