The Inhibitions
At this point, we need to take a moment to talk about the obstacles to our practice. There are three inhibitions or defenses that can get in the way of progress in Mirror Meditation. I’ve already written about the first of these to some extent: our image and the way we judge it.
I just want to briefly introduce the other two, the 2nd of which appeared in the 3rd practice yesterday. The 2nd inhibition is expression - namely our inability to express ourselves authentically and freely. This is because our channel of expression is shut down from a very early age and in fact, even as far back as previous lives in which we were traumatized because of such expression. But we need a free and open vocal channel in mirror meditation, one free of self-censorship, in order to open the doors of communication with the aspects of ourselves that reveal themselves in and through the mirror.
